As a senior at Texas State University, I have learned that the closer graduation looms, the more nostalgic I get for the beginning of my college years. As I look over the years that I have gone to this school, I have noticed the way that I have changed, both in my personality and my passions. Growing up in Houston and moving to San Marcos without knowing a single person, I have gotten to know myself more on a personal level. One thing that has always stuck with me, though, is that I consider myself a curious person. I have always wanted to explore, learn, and grow from my experiences.
One of the passions that has always stuck with me has been reading, writing, and film. Through art and entertainment, I have found that creativity is so much more than simply having an idea. It’s a way to tell a story through a lens of a person’s own making. I have always found that I have a soft spot for stories with plots that deal with bigger ideas, such as class, inequality, religion, and morality. Because I began to realize my interests, I began to push myself to pursue them. Through this, I have been able to experience working on multiple sets for short films, going to movie premieres, and meeting like-minded people.
Another thing that I have realized is that my family is always important to me. My family has always loved to travel. Through them, I was able to learn about different cultures firsthand, and I always feel so grateful for the hand that I was given in having my mom, dad, and sister as my family. Through the things that I have learned in just the few years that I have been at Texas State University, I hope to take what I have learned and apply it to wherever I may end up in the future.
